Thanks to everyone who joined us at the Compassionate Chefs Cafe on May 24th. We had a great time and raised over $9,000!

Our biggest thanks goes out to Baron Sir Roy Salazar who joined us for the dinner, music and merriment. If you weren’t there, Baron Roy provided an exciting element to the night by opening champagne bottles with a saber.

About Baron Sir RoyPossibly the last of the Renissance men Chef Baron Sir Roy Salazar’s resume is dizzingly diverse as a Certified Master Chef, Master Taster and Master Sommilier, that received some of his culinary education at Le Cordon Bleu/California Culinary Academy and the Culinary Institute of America. He has also been a student at Oxford University, Harvard Law School, West Point, and the University of San Francisco.He has been of service to Kings, Queens, and Presidents, and has been knighted in three continents, thus not only receiving the royal title of “Sir”, but also the title of “Baron” for his continuous humanitarian ventures.He is most proud to have been of service to the poor and needy throughout the world. In San Francisco he has been awarded the award of merit from the Mayor and honored with a day in his honor. He also serves on his cities city council, helping with humanitarian based issues and funding.His culinary skills have earned him many of the same prestigious culinary awards bestowed to Julia Child and previous CCC guest Chef Martin Yan. He is a Chef Instructor at Le Cordon Bleu of San Francisco/California Culinary Academy and is proud to be known there as the Humanitarian Chef.
He is married to Chef and Baroness Lady Julie Tan (also knighted), and works with her and their two
faithful basset hounds, Mouton and Lafite, out of their company “A Sip and A Taste”.
About Compassionate Chefs Cafe
Compassionate Chefs Cafe (CCC) is a San Francisco-based non-profit organization with one goal: To help
children locally and globally. We work with the Tenderloin After School Program (TASP) in San Francisco and Gandhi Ashram in New Delhi, India to uplift the lives of the children and provide them with important
resources to become members of the global village.
100% of money raised goes to CCC. The $26,000 raised last year kept TASP’s door open and availble to over 250 kids for 40 hours a week, sent 16 kids on a visit to colleges in Chicago and helped provide free homework tutoring five nights a week. At the Gandhi Ashram, our donation provide clean water and new bathrooms to the school, bought new uniforms and provided school supplies to all 300 students.

He was joined by another special guest: Commisioner Darshan Sing, who also helped open our doors twenty years ago.

About Us

Compassionate Chefs Cafe (CCC) is a San Francisco-based non-profit organization with one goal: To help children locally and globally. We work with members of the members of the Bay Area community to raise funds for the children across the street and across the ocean. This is an experiment to see what happens when a community comprised of caring people, business owners and local chefs all focus their generosity.

Our Projects

Across the street, we support the Tenderloin After School Program – which provides valuable services to the kids of the families living in the Tenderloin district of San Fancisco. TASP provides kids with a safe place to be, where they can play and study and the proper support and training necessary to succeed in life.

Across the ocean, we’ve adopted the Gandhi Ashram at Kingsway Camp in New Delhi, India to help uplift the underprivileged. At this location, we are helping to fund the school for children of Harijan (untouchable) Street Cleaners. These children will help ti uplift their improvrished communities from within. It is the most basic of all human needs to be clean and have nurturing human touch.

Where the Funds Go

Over $10k raised at Compassion Chefs Cafe party!

About Martin Yan
Internationally known chef and author Martin Yan got his start at age 13 when he began his apprenticeship in Hong Kong. After honing his skills in Asia, he moved to the United States and earned an MS in Food Science at The University of California/Davis.
In 1978, the now-classic “Yan Can Cook” debuted on television and a star was born. He has been the celebrated host of over 2800 cooking shows broadcast worldwide. Chef Yan has published 30 cookbooks and won numerous awards, including the James Beard Award. Most recently, he has opened a culinary school in Shehzhen, China.
